Some Dog Animations

For some reason blogspot will not upload my animation assignments....so I will just share this random animation test I created today...

Up and Look. Random Dog thing I wanted to test.

I didn't do so well as I hoped I would. I am not confident at all in animating. What I did want to test with lip syncing. Having trouble with getting files in import into flash professional CS4.n I have never had a problem before so this is rather curious my trouble...hmm.

In anycase, I would love feedback guys.

Tiger

Yasmin

My vampire character Yasmin. Testing colours for her.

Kero For Fun...

Since it's a Kero posting day may as well pull out some old stuff I have completed of him eh?

Old Reference of the character from 2007. Some of it is still useful. The Dingo and Kero have broken off into separate characters now. A lot of Kero's markings are unnecessary now. (Age begun when Kero first arrived in this plane of existence) Also he now does not have wings these days, only when he is traveling between worlds. He takes flight on the ebony wings of a raven.

Some different versions of Kero over the years.

As I have said once or twice I was a bit of a horror nerd during highschool. Why not, rip open a character for a bit of a laugh?

Done in flash with motion tweens. Sorry bad quality....this is how flash saves an animated gif. Awful ain't it?

Kero

Kero the Guardian

It has been a while since this guardian has been a part of my dreams.

I have been looking through my old psd files and found this meme I started this time last year.

Kero was once a young and playful spirit, but had grown serious over the years of war. His face no longer carries any expression as he walks the earth, he hangs his shoulders low and heavy with his past.

His role was the keeper of the demon of fire. Though, priorities in war have made him distracted, he has lost the Fire and is currently scorned by other demons. He has secret contact with the hellhounds, but other than that lives a rather solitary life in limbo.

Fuueo 2 - Greyscale complete

More Work in progress. Posting update for Teggy.

Fuueo work in Progress

I am using a size 3 pixel brush.....

I am. USING. a SIZE....3.....PIXel brush???

I usually use a size 5 or 9. So this is a big deal. A big change in technique. I did not sketch this out first, the image is in my head. Sketches are overrated.

This is an old character I am trying to give back some life to. Fuueo used to be a big part of my muse.

A Different World

Here is some work I have been owing my friend Jonathan for some time. He has been wonderfully patient with me as I have been suffering under an art block. Though I am glad that today I have made progress of it. Probably not the best time to be distracted with art, this is my final week at uni before holidays.

Anyway, I am working on putting on paper Jonathan's world for his Role Playing Game. Steampunk inspired.

Ugh I need so much practice with backgrounds. Hopefully I can get better. I am gonna wait and see what Jonathon thinks about these before I continue working on more. I am curious as to see if I am in the right direction with his world.

Making of Ziwei

During this post I will be revisiting the making of a piece of artwork I created in November last year. The main subject in this work is Ralph, an old character of mine. A punk rocker kind of boy who originally was a pikachu character. That is why I draw him with a pikachu shirt. The dragon is inspired by the Ziwei star.

Zi Wei Dou Shu is a form of fortune-telling in Chinese culture. It remains one of the most well-respected processes for laying out "The Destiny Path" or "Fate".
* Zi Wei (紫微) - literally "purple micro"; it is the most auspicious star in the chart.
* Dou (斗) means "to put together".
* Shu (数) means "to calculate".

Zi Wei Dou Shu thus means the study of a person's life based on the movement and location of the Zi Wei Star and 100+ other stars at the specific time the person was born.

And thus the creation of this artwork.

Sketching

Of course when drawing characters it is best to sketch them out. It is usually a step I glance over but for this piece I seemed to have wanted a little bit more thought brought into this. As you can see from the following image I roughed out the movement then followed onto a much more detailed sketch. From the sketch some clean linework. I chose a brown for the lines because I already knew what my colour pallet would look like.

Flat Colour and Background
I kept all my colours rather earthy with reds and pinks. All warm colours. This works with the brown lines I already chose. Once that was done I made a gradient in the background. This is how all my backgrounds begin even if I am painting a scenery. From there a little bit of rising sun style lights from the back of the character with the lightest colour chosen in the gradient.

Textures and Shadows.
Now the background is how I like it I work on adding more interesting textures and lighting into it. The shadows I was not going to work on until I had a good idea of how the shadows in the background were. This isnt so important for character pinup style work like this, but its a little more important when working on environments with characters in them.
Without the background you can see how redish the shadows actually are.

Creating Ziwei.
I placed a white layer over Ralph and the background so I can see where I am working on this without too much distraction. Once I finished him in his normal colours I then continued to working him into the background. Without the pink glow he would have stuck out like a sore thumb. The idea for the dragon was to frame the page, not take over from Ralph.

And here is the final product for those who have not yet seen it.

Vampies and werewolves

A burst of inspiration came to me. Old characters from an old comic I was writing.

Yasmin Maria Nowicki. Vampire. A very free and playful spirit. She likes to live a fairly normal life. Read a book, watch some tv. Her human family was Polish and moved to America when she was young. She turned vampire at 17 and lived on the streets for a number of years. She has street smarts but does not possess psychical strength. Not too keen on violence which is unfortunate for the company she keeps.

Benedict Greer Sinclair. Werewolf. Served in the American military until promoted to a special ops team. This special operation just happened to involve being injected with the werewolf virus.

Dragons

It has been a few years since I have found dragons as a major topic in my work. The closest to dragons in my work has been my infamous pokemon fanart. I am curious as to what has sparked this movement of fantasy in me, it may have been the DnD game I played last year...

In anycase, I want to share some characters and dragon works I have completed this year. These are from my sketchbooks. I rarely scan these up so this is a treat for ya!

Longface the dragon who refuses to smile and his faithful friend, Henry. Henry loves Longface even though he can be a bit of a stick in the mud. Completed around March.

One of my favorites of Henry and Longface. Longface is really trying his hardest to smile. Henry - "If you can't smile nicely then how am I ever going to introduce my friends to you? They'll think you want to eat them with those hideous teeth". Completed around April.

Beauty and Beast. The plan for this image was to test being able to bring back my old skills with the graphire pencil. I think I need to work more on it honestly, I do not feel I am as good as I used to be. This was created in March this year.

Kailey and Brute. From the image above I evolved the characters sketching them over and over till I was happy with them. This was completed around April.

This dragon came from the influence of the asian artwork I was surrounding myself with at the time, with a little bit of excitment of How to Train your Dragon being released in cinemas. This was created in March this year.

3D Dog Character

3D, The one class that I am struggling in other than English. Only just managing passes. The work we do is simple. Objects. Straight Edges. Boxes. Should be oright? I just sit staring at the computer unable to comprehend a thing. The mass overload of buttons enough scares me in 3DsMax. Last couple of classes we have been looking at characters. There is so much detail that goes into the character modeling, no lines should ever make a straight edge. (unless you are looking for that kind of style)

For some ungodly reason since I was a child the most complex puzzles were the ones I could figure out. Simple things just go over my head. I was a bored child, I wish I paid attention to the simplier things. It may have helped me work out modeling a fucking DSi. Instead I find it much easier to work out the tendons in a hand.

Anyhow, I think I have finally broken my boundaries with the 3DsMax program. I do not think this would have been possible if it wasn't for Sam, who influenced me to work at it. I didn't get my last assessment on in time but at least I am a little more confident.

Here is some early progress work for a canine creature I was working on. I think my subconscious memories were working on me, it looks like a neopets' Gerlet.

I took away the teeth, added some smoothing groups and a nose.

And here is the final, well...I may get back to it add in its eyes and teeth. For now it is complete.

The Wickerfoul Mutt

First sketches of the Wickerfouls. Possible Summon creature for my RP character.

Decided on this design.

They will be chargers. Fast run and a heavy first hit. After that they would take less damage as their bite is a little awkward with those tusks. A critical bite could be lethal, but would also snap a wickerfoul's tusks giving them lower damage again.

The Wickerfoul mutt is part of the suidae family. Heavy built in the neck and shoulder, carnivous for extra health and can reach top speeds of 20kmh.

They smell like rotting flesh smeared with feces. Can be smelt by an enemy with no keen sense of smell from a great distance. They are not a pleasent creature to have around. The smell makes most people whell up with tears, vomit uncontrollably or even pass out. To some advantage this smell can also repeal certain enemies and disguese some other smells.
Coloured a very dull green grey they can conseal themselves well in darkness and forest. The thin part of their ears, spine and tail is completly hairless. The thick wooly manes around their chest and neck protect them from bites of other animals. Their eyes are light sensitive, they prefer the night.
